Selected Topics on IT Security
Priv.-Doz. Dr. Werner Schindler
Integrity and authenticity are indispensable security requirements for nearly all smart card applications and many internet applications such as homebanking, electronic payment systems, e-commerce and remote access, for instance. Depending on the particular application, also privacy and non-repudiation may be relevant. All of these requirements can be ensured with cryptographic mechanisms. However, strong cryptographic mechanisms are rarely attacked directly, but the attacker (additionally) exploits weaknesses in the protocol, pecularities of the concrete implementation, the hardware, the operating system or the communication protocol, or even a combination thereof. This course treats selected topics from these fields. As far as possible, these phenomena are explained by means of practical applications. This lecture continues the course "Introduction to Cryptography" taught during the winter term.
