ZusammenfassungAs current trends determine that the Internet may become a ubiquitious, global network for communications, Internet services accomodate communications between various locations and users. Basic best-effort services as well as advanced and guaranteed services are required to support the broad range of today's multimedia applications. However, while enhanced service concepts emerge on the technical side, a wide-range and professional provision of Internet services is restricted due to lacking mechanisms for the efficient and usage-based charging, accounting, pricing, and billing of integrated Internet services.
Closing the gap between today's Internet communication demands and the need to gain revenue for Internet Service Providers, economic incentives and technical support is required in an integrated manner. Therefore, this talk indentifies main problems in the area of Internet charging. Based on general design decisions, it discusses an approach to charge, account, and price reservation-based flows in the integrated Internet. In addition, critical implementation issues and performance aspects with usage-based pricing models are evaluated.
